Child Protection at FDR
Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt is a student-centered school. As such, we are committed to the standards of a safe and secure teaching and learning environment. In alignment with our school’s core values and mission statement, Colegio Roosevelt has developed a handbook to outline the guidelines, practices, and expectations specific to protecting the safety and well-being of our students.
The Board of Trustees has adopted a Child Protection Policy to guide our staff and families in matters related to the health, safety, and care of children in attendance at our school.
The Colegio Roosevelt Child Protection Policy is based on international law and on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child of which Peru is a signatory. The two key articles of this UN Convention state the following:
Article 19 - Protection from abuse and neglect
The State shall protect the child from all forms of maltreatment by parents or others responsible for the care of the child and establish appropriate social programs for the prevention of abuse and the treatment of victims.
Article 34 - Sexual exploitation
The State shall protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse, including prostitution and involvement in pornography.
At Colegio Roosevelt, a group of educators (administration & counselors) serve as part of the Child Protection Committee responsible to advance and practice the school’s Child Protection Policy. In doing so, Colegio Roosevelt ensures that our school is proactive in establishing a safe guarded environment for all children and community members. In doing so, Colegio Roosevelt
- promotes well-being
- protects the rights of the child and human rights
- prevents impairment of children’s healthy development
- reduces the risk of neglect, and social, emotional, sexual, and physical abuse through training and reporting.
To ensure we live by our handbook and policy, the Child Protection Committee in collaboration with the Human Resources Department provides training for all new faculty and staff each year and ensures ongoing training and preparedness for staff and faculty.
All members of Colegio Roosevelt partner with the school to work in partnership and abide by our policies. All of us at Colegio Roosevelt value this partnership for the safety and care of our child(ren).
