Welcome to High School

The High School years are a time of significant exploration and learning as students seek to identify their interests and strengths. The High School program is designed to empower each student to engage in a learning process that values inquiry, critical thinking, and reflection, as a means to understand and pursue their own passions for learning in meaningful ways, within and beyond the classroom. Believing that “choice empowers”, students are encouraged to take risks and challenge themselves to expand their capacity to think, to learn, to design and to lead a vast array of activities, events, and community service clubs. As active participants in learning and leading in the classroom and across the community, our students have the opportunity to explore who they are, and who they might want to be, to be best prepared for the vast range of diverse post-secondary endeavors they may choose to pursue.

What We Do

Design rigorous learning opportunities that challenge students to be reflective, critical thinkers able to apply their learning and solve problems
Empower students with the opportunity to choose courses, programs, and co-curricular involvement to explore and develop their passions for learning
Promote a balanced approach to hard work, mindfulness, and healthy choices. Students are encouraged to explore and find balance in their curricular and co-curricular interests, while also mastering the skills of effective time management and organization.
Liaise with the community to support students to act as change agents, and to create socially responsible solutions in school and beyond.

Learning is the development of conceptual understandings, knowledge, skills, attitudes, learning behaviors, and opportunities for action. A range of strategies including inquiry based practices are designed to help scaffold student learning experiences.

Academic, physical, and social-emotional learning targets are aligned with FDR's adopted standards which include the U.S. Common Core in Mathematics and English Language Arts, the Official Peruvian Program (OPP) in Spanish, the AERO standards in Social Studies, and the Next Generation Science Standards in Science. We emphasize student self-reflection, assessment for and of learning, and goal setting to support all students as they become independent learners.

Counseling

The High School Counseling Program provides comprehensive support for students in Grades 9–12, focusing on social-emotional well-being, academic planning, self and career exploration, and college counseling. Counselors work closely with students, families, and faculty to foster positive relationships and promote each student’s academic, personal, and post-secondary success.

Through an open-door policy and scheduled appointments, counselors address immediate concerns and guide students in developing the skills and confidence needed for life beyond high school. They collaborate with parents and outside professionals to ensure students receive appropriate and sustained support when needed.

As students move through high school, counselors offer individualized guidance on course planning and the college application process, supporting pathways to North American, Peruvian, and international universities. Working in partnership with the school community, counselors help students explore their interests, build global perspectives, and prepare for future opportunities with clarity and purpose.

FDR Diploma

All high school students are on this pathway, and when they complete all of its requirements by the end of their Grade 12 year they graduate with their US-accredited Colegio Roosevelt High School Diploma. This allows them the opportunity to matriculate to universities worldwide, including in the United States, Canada and Europe. In addition, native Spanish speaking students can combine their FDR Diploma Pathway with an Official Peruvian Program distinction by taking the required combination of courses to earn the OPP, allowing them to matriculate to Spanish language universities in Peru or abroad. And if students so choose, they can also combine the FDR Diploma Pathway with one of two other pathways, The Global Impact Diploma (GID) or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) to lead to additional distinctions, as will be described below.

Innovation Academy

Innovation Academy
The Innovation Academy (IA) is an interdisciplinary, research-based curriculum that allows students to work in small cohorts to complete projects that target authentic audiences. The IA has a solid service component and allows 9th and 10th graders the autonomy to work outside campus on real research and to learn from outside experts in their fields.More information can be found at www.rooseveltinnovationacademy.com

Global Impact Diploma Pathway

Starting with the graduating class of 2027 students will have the option of graduating with a Global Impact Diploma (GID) distinction. The GID is a distinction that was co-created by international schools worldwide. It is a program designed to foster agency and a sense of meaning in education. Students pursuing the GID take 5 core GID courses and engage in specialization courses either through the International Baccalaureate, online programs, or other bespoke courses. The emphasis is on applying learning in real-world contexts through courses focused on collaboration and agency for impact. It provides students an opportunity to focus on an area of interest while also gaining exceptional real world skills. To learn more about the Global Impact Diploma, click here.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a rigorous two-year learning pathway students take in grades 11 and 12, offering a broad and balanced curriculum that is recognized as an excellent preparation for higher education and life beyond school. Its concept-based, learner centered and inquiry driven curriculum promotes international mindedness and critical thinking. It incorporates the study of two languages, a humanities or social science subject, an experimental science, mathematics, and an arts course or elective option. In addition, the IB Diploma’s core components - Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity and Service, help develop the student as a holistic learner through the development of key learning attributes and dispositions that include: strong communication and research skills, critical and creative thinking skills, open-mindedness, risk-taking, and intercultural awareness and understanding.

Official Peruvian Program

In addition to the US and the IB Diplomas, Colegio Roosevelt offers the Official Peruvian Program (OPP) that leads to the awarding of the Official Peruvian Certificate of Studies, which is recognized worldwide. Enrollment in the OPP is open to students who are native Spanish speakers or are highly proficient in the language. An Official Peruvian Certificate of Studies is needed for Peruvian students and other Spanish speaking students applying to Peruvian universities or universities abroad that have cultural, scientific and educational agreements with Peru. The academic strength of our students is recognized by the top ranked Peruvian universities who consider us a "High Performing School". How GOA Works:

We offer Global Online Academy (GOA) courses as semester and yearlong courses. They are are fully online and built around student-centered learning. With a 1:18 student-to-teacher ratio, GOA courses combine asynchronous coursework with regular check-ins and personalized feedback from expert teachers. Students engage in interactive projects, collaborate with peers from around the world, and have the flexibility to work at their own pace within weekly deadlines. At FDR, we accept GOA applications from students in Grades 11 and 12. Eligible students may enroll in up to one GOA course per semester, allowing them to explore new subjects or dive deeper into areas of interest. Students receive one block in their schedule to dedicate to their GOA learning.
