Classroom Without Walls (CWW) Trips 2009: Congratulations to our dedicated team of MS teachers, who successfully coordinated and accompanied groups in Cusco, Iquitos, Trujillo/Chiclayo and Lima! Hats off to our students, who were positive representatives of FDR throughout the country!
Bravos for Our Students: Congratulations to Saaya Morimoto, who passed the London audition for the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS). She will participate in the AMIS International European Middle School Honor Band Festival at the International School of Düsseldorf in March 2010. Congratulations also to Maurizio Camere for his recent participation in the water polo tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Parents are encouraged to communicate their child’s successes to Ms. Salem, Ms. Remy or Ms. Hebl, so we can publicly recognize outstanding accomplishments within the MS.
Freedom from Chemical Dependency Presentations (FCD): FCD is an organization that “for 30 years… has worked hand in hand with hundreds of schools across the United States and around the world to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to make intelligent, healthy choices about alcohol and other drug use.” The presenters will be meeting with all middle school students in large and small groups to talk about the physiological and psychological effects of alcohol and other drugs and making healthy choices. They will also be addressing parents to discuss collaboration among members of the school community to promote the health and welfare of young people. PTA is graciously providing translation during this meeting. More information about this group can be found on their web site, http://www.fcd.org/content/index.asp.
MS Spanish Drama: The Spanish Drama Club will be presenting the play "AMÉLIE", a romantic comedy. The original French title is Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain ("The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain"), written by Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant. This adaptation of the film shows the contemporary Parisian life, set in Montmartre. It tells the story of a shy waitress who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better, while struggling with her own isolation. Students are presenting this play on November 5 and 6, at 7: 30 pm in Center Stage. Twenty-four students will be on stage. Donation is 10 soles for community service. Don't miss it!!
MS Parents’ Book Club: The first meeting of the MS Parents’ Book Club will be held on Nov. 11th at 11:00 in the Media Center. Librarian John Kurtenbach will be leading the discussion of this year’s first selection, Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos, who was a smash hit with students and teachers during his visit to the school in Sept. Copies of the book are available in the library and through some level parent representatives. We’d love to see you there!
MS Math: Students and parents can access online math resources via the MS math pages on Moodle: http://courses.amersol.edu.pe/course/category.php?id=3&perpage=20&page=2.
Parent may log in as a guest to their child’s Math class to view assignments and Connected Math resources, including video tutorials and online resources.
MathCounts, a program designed to build math skills, promote logical thinking, and sharpen analytical abilities through challenging and exciting activities, is being offered on Fridays during lunch in MS108. It also fosters teamwork and a competitive spirit among students. If this is something you think your child would enjoy, please encourage him/her to participate.
