Power School and Moodle Access: On Fri. Aug. 14th, parents received a letter in the Friday Envelope with the log in information and password to enter Power School. Check out the instructions on the MS web page (http://www.amersol.edu.pe/ms/powerschool/powerschool.asp) to learn how to use Power School to keep up with your child’s academic progress.
Ask your child to show you his/her Moodle classes. This is where teachers will post assignments, deadlines, rubrics, resources. You will be able to see a calendar with all of the due dates for your child’s classes.
You should have received and returned (with your signature) your child’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) form. This document outlines the rules and procedures for the responsible use of technology here at FDR. If you haven’t seen the form, you may view a copy from
http://www.amersol.edu.pe/ms/technology/MS_AUP_2009.pdf.
FDR Sweatshirts: Mr. Russ Jones, the new superintendent, has announced that the grey hooded sweatshirts will now be considered part of the school uniform.
There are no more sweatshirts currently available, but new ones will be produced by the school's uniform company. These will go on sale in the uniform store as soon as they are ready, but most likely not until December.
MS Parents’ Book Club: Three books have been selected for MS parents to read and discuss this school year. The first is Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos, who will be visiting the school in Sept. and working with students and teachers. Girls Will Be Girls by JoAnn Deak and Raising Cain (Criando a Cain) by Michael Thompson will both be discussed at the second meeting. The Motivation Breakthrough by Richard Lavoie is the third selection. Donna Goldberg, author of The Organized Student, says that this book "offers concrete strategies and reveals the most powerful and effective secrets for boosting a child's confidence, self-esteem, and motivation." Parents who are interested in participating in the book club can purchase the titles through Amazon www.amazon.com or at the PTA Book Fair. Some copies will be available in the library for parents to check out.
