NO SCHOOL

On the 14th of September, FDR will host its first ever MS 24-hour drama event.  At 7:00 Friday evening interested MS students will come to FDR and  spend the next 24 hours creating an original performance piece that will be presented for your viewing pleasure at 7:00 PM September 15th.  There are no auditions.  Every student who gets their permission slips in before 3:20 on Friday, 7 September is welcome to attend.  Permission slip can be picked up in the main office.  If you have any other questions about the program, please feel free to contact David Chapman at dchapman@amersol.edu.pe

CWW:  So you can plan ahead: Payment for the Classroom Without Walls trips  must be made on October 1st and 2nd on campus. The cost will be $650 for Grade 6 to Cusco, $700 for Grade 7 to Iquitos and $625 for Grade 8  to Trujillo/Chiclayo. Packets with complete information will go home September 24th and will be followed by meetings for parents. We need to have the complete lists of participants by then because it is a very busy time in Peru for school trips and we want our groups together in each location.

MYP ASSESSMENT:  Please attend the coffee on September 4th or 6th to have the opportunity to see examples of assessment and to be able to ask general questions.  Tuesday is intended for grade 6 and the examples will be from that grade level. Thursday is intended for grades 7 & 8 with examples from those grades.

CHILDREN REACHING OUT TO CHILDREN:  Middle School and Elementary school students and staff contributed 500 or more bags. These bags were picked up by the Scouts of Peru and will be delivered to children impacted by the earthquake. Thank you to all who contributed.

On Tuesday during Back to School afternoon, 20 students helped to pack bags of non-perishable food for earthquake survivors in Hoja Redonda.  See the following link for a photo and more information.  http://www.mercycorps.org/topics/emergencies/1798

RELIGION CLASSES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS – Religion classes already started August 22 on Wednesdays from 12:20 to 1:20 pm. Avanzada Católica welcomes new students.

AFTER SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS - This year, we will be offering an after school activity of visiting factories and different production processes. As we are making arrangements with the places we would like to visit, we will be announcing the fieldtrips and locations with two weeks notice and the students will have the opportunity to sign up for each of them individually.  This means they can go to one or more of the visits. Since the number of students invited will vary according to the factories, sign ups will be done in a “first come, first served” basis.

Our first visit will be the Mc. Donalds restaurant located at Ovalo El Monitor (Av. Javier Prado and Av. Las Palmeras) there; we will have the opportunity to watch a short video about the company and their suppliers. After that, we will get in the kitchen and they will explain to us all of the process, from the moment the customer comes into the restaurant and places his order, until the order is served, the responsibilities of every employee and the quality control and maintenance of the place.

For each field trip your child has to sign up, and he/she will receive a permission slip with all of the information regarding that specific visit. Please, read it carefully before you sign, because on some of them we will not be able to catch the 5:20pm busses to go home after the trip, so pick up arrangements should be considered.

We are looking forward to starting our program and we are sure that our students will enjoy and learn a lot from these field trips.
