CWW:  So you can plan ahead: Payment for the Classroom Without Walls trips  must be made on October 1st and 2nd on campus. The cost will be $650 for Grade 6 to Cusco, $700 for Grade 7 to Iquitos and $625 for Grade 8  to Trujillo/Chiclayo. Packets with complete information will go home September 24th and will be followed by meetings for parents. We need to have the complete lists of participants by then because it is a very busy time in Peru for school trips and we want our groups together in each location.

RESCHEDULED BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:  We rescheduled the Middle School Back to School Night for August 28th from 4:00 - 6:15 p.m.  We will follow the same schedule except that all times will be 3 hours earlier.

MYP ASSESSMENT:  There is not a new topic this week, but rather a suggestion that you do two things over the next two weeks to learn more about this topic.  First, when you are at Back School Night on August 28th, ask each teacher to explain what the E, G, S, B, N mean when they use it in PowerGrade for that class. They will be able to give you specific examples that apply to that class.  Secondly, please attend the Coffees on either September 4th or 6th to look at specific examples.

CHILDREN REACHING OUT TO CHILDREN:  The Scouts of Peru is organizing a collection of basic supplies for children.   This is what they need:

A warm jacket/sweater, scarf, hat used but in good condition

A box of crayons, coloring pencils, or markers

A coloring book or blank notebook

A stuffed toy

Toothbrush and toothpaste

Bar of soap

A message in Spanish that tells a message of friendship

We are asking that our students  gather the above, put them in a plastic bag [like a Wong’s bag] and turn the bag in to the period 1 teacher by August 29th. Write on the outside of the bag the size of the sweater/jacket or age of the child this would be for. On August 31st we will transport these to the organization which will transport them south.  All donations will be sent to Ica, Chincha and Pisco on September 1.

This is a way to make life a bit brighter for a single child in the earthquake area from a single student at Roosevelt.  Reach out and touch someone through this effort. You are welcome to do more than one bag, but please make each bag contain the items for one child.

AFTER SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS - This year, we will be offering an after school activity of visiting factories and different production processes. As we are making arrangements with the places we would like to visit, we will be announcing the fieldtrips and locations with two weeks notice and the students will have the opportunity to sign up for each of them individually.  This means they can go to one or more of the visits. Since the number of students invited will vary according to the factories, sign ups will be done in a “first come, first served” basis.

Our first visit will be the Mc. Donalds restaurant located at Ovalo El Monitor (Av. Javier Prado and Av. Las Palmeras) there; we will have the opportunity to watch a short video about the company and their suppliers. After that, we will get in the kitchen and they will explain to us all of the process, from the moment the customer comes into the restaurant and places his order, until the order is served, the responsibilities of every employee and the quality control and maintenance of the place.

For each fieldtrip your child has to sign up, and he/she will receive a permission slip with all of the information regarding that specific visit. Please, read it carefully before you sign, because on some of them we will not be able to catch the 5:20pm busses to go home after the trip, so pick up arrangements should be considered.

We are looking forward to starting our program and we are sure that our students will enjoy and learn a lot from these field trips.
