CONGRATULATIONS to the 8 students inducted into National Junior Honor Society on Thursday, March 27th. These students chose to apply for membership because they have maintained a Grade Point Average equivalent to 3.5 or above so far while in middle school, did extra community service hours beyond what they do within our curriculum, and wrote an essay about the qualities which they possess that would make them good members. The faculty reviewed the candidates in terms of the five pillars of the NJHS: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. All seventh and eighth graders were invited to apply if they met the scholarship criteria. The following students were inducted: Ernesto de Losada, Jessica de Medeiros, Spencer Nash, Jimena Ormeño, Daniella Silva, Alessa Esparza, Alana Sacio, and David Wouch. Link to photos:

KONDORTECH goes to Japan. Please click on the link below. The middle school has offered a course in Robotics for the past few years. There are several students who continued with their interest beyond the semester long course and worked after school to continue learning. Last year a team of seven eighth – tenth graders traveled to Norway after winning the invitation to the European Open in a national competition held here at FDR. This year FDR again won an invitation in the Peruvian national championship held in December. A team of six high schoolers, all of them who began with Robotics in the middle school, will be traveling to Tokyo for the First League League Open Asia Championship the end of April. If you would like to learn more or support the team in some way, please click on the following link:

CONFERENCES THIS SEMESTER: Please note that due to the government mandated school closing in May we have changed the Student-Led Conference Week to May 5-9. You will receive an appointment slip in April so that you can plan your time.
ID CARDS: Students are expected to have ID cards with them every day and will be charged S/10 if they need a replacement card. Please support us in our suggestion to students to keep the ID card in a secure zippered pocket in a backpack or bag that they bring to school every day. Students who arrive in busses will also be asked to show cards on a random basis.
STUDENTS WHO LIVE NEARBY AND WALK HOME and need to cross Las Palmeras should do so at the corner near the bus gate adjacent to Gate 2 so that there is a policeman to help with the traffic. Please remind your children to cooperate with this practice.
IS YOUR CHILD BEING STALKED??? Anyone, young or old, who uses a computer can be the victim of cyber crime. This includes harassment, unsolicited obscene words and pictures, attacks on your credit and identity, and invitations from predators. Parents need to be informed so that they can help their children to be safe with internet use. Please join us Wednesday, April 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Little Theatre for a presentation by Jorge Aguinaga who has been involved in educating kids and adults about this topic through an initiative by Microsoft. |
