SPANISH PLAY: For the first time since I have been at Roosevelt, stage was full for two nights in a row with an enthusiastic audience. Ms. Denegri, Ms Salazar, and Ms Olivares once again gathered together a group of students to delight the audience. Alumni Adrian Galarcep has proven again to be a director who can get the most out of these beginning actors and actresses. Congratulations to the cast and crew and all who helped out including high school students and parents. It was months of hard work but something they can be proud of whether their part was big or small. And to the teachers and Adrian -- thanks for your dedication and encouragement.

We have scheduled 4 hours of Acepta drug and alcohol workshops for all middle school students.  During this time, students will receive valuable information about these topics, including how to handle themselves when put in the position of temptation.  The ACEPTA Drug and Alcohol program is coming in on December 5th at 7:00 pm sharp to help parents prepare for the summer challenges.  This meeting will be held in the Little Theater.  We hope to see you there.

We hope to see all parents at the next 8th grade coffee on Thursday, December 7th from 8 am until 10am in the Little Theater. We will be addressing two important issues: registering for high school classes and how to help your child resolve conflict. Counselors will be present to give you valuable information regarding how your child should choose next year's courses in terms of requirements for graduation as well as appropriate levels. Furthermore, counselors will provide you with helpful tips on how to assist your 8th grader in being able to work out both social and academic disagreements.

ROW (Rock Our World) sixth graders talked to students at a school in Japan Thursday. Each asked the other questions.  The comment student complaint – homework – was one of the topics.  The students in Japan did the same project our students did – making a car that ran on solar power.  There will be a worldwide teleconference on December 9th. We hope many of our 6th grade participants will be able to be here despite the fact that it is a long weekend.

LOG ENTRY LETTERS  have been going home this year in place of the small referral slips we used to send. This has been confusing to some parents.  The date on the letter is the date it was printed. The letter is signed by Cathy Rohter, Dean of Students.  If you read the text (in English) it tells you the type of offense, the date it happened, the details, and the teacher who reported it.  This is generally a classroom teacher reporting incidents which happen in the classroom or in their area and Ms Rohter for things like tardiness to school, belongings left out after break, lunch, or the end of the day, bus incidents or other incidents not specifically from a class.  We have added a Spanish translation at the bottom that indicates the date of a detention if one has been assigned. The Spanish translation does not include the details of the incident because these are recorded in the computer in English and it is a form letter.  We believe that this letter is a better form of communication between home and school that the small paper we used to send.  If you have questions please feel free to contact  crohter@amersol.edu.pe

The First Lego League (http://www.firstlegoleague.org/) is an international program for children ages 9-16 that combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. Teams consist of up to 10 players with the focus on such things as team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking. Each September, a new Challenge is unveiled to FLL International teams across the world. Over the course of 8 weeks, they strategize, design, build, program, test and refine a fully autonomous robot capable of completing the various missions of the FLL International "Robot Game" Using the LEGO MINDSTORMS™ technology. They also search the web, talk to scientists, visit the library and develop compelling presentations based on the FLL International "Research Assignment", which relates to a problem or opportunity facing the world today. FDR has two teams participating from Middle School and 1 from High School. We have been chosen to host the national finals on December 16th. The winners will represent Peru in the international finals to be held in Atlanta on the 12 - 14 of April, 2007.  Gaby Eyzaguirre is working with the middle school.

For this event we will need volunteers. Please go into this link for more information  http://www.robotecperu.com/voluntarios.html  And if you as a parent would like to do it, please send an email to voluntarios@robotecperu.com. It is helpful to be bilingual but volunteers who speak only English are also welcome since there will be chores that don’t require the use of any language. The Peruvian representatives of FLL have bilingual trainers that will give instructions to volunteers.

The Middle School Dance Concert will be presented on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:00 pm in Center Stage.  This concert will feature Middle School dancers performing original dance compositions of different styles, including jazz, hip hop, modern, lyrical, broadway, and much more!  Come and enjoy a great evening of dance!
