FACT OF THE WEEK:  We need to work on responsibility in terms of cleaning up after lunch.

Clinica Santa Margarita has offered to come on campus to give Yellow Fever shots to Iquitos travelers for S/ 65 each.  We will send out additional information to students who are going on the trips when we have the details.

We will arrange to have Permiso Notariales done on campus for all three grade levels.  Grades 6 & 7 will be during conference week but grade 8 will have to be done sooner due to the fact that they leave on Sunday the 15th.  More information will follow on exact dates and requirements.

If you did not pay for the trip to Iquitos and still wish to do so, you must call Explorama at (065) 25-2530 or (065) 25-2526 to check with Marisol to see if there are still available seats. She will then give you the information for payment by bank transfer.

POWER SCHOOL: We are experiencing some difficulties with PowerSchool.  While the grades the teachers have input are correct here on campus, when they are transferred to PowerSchool there have been some inconsistencies.  Please bear with us as we find the causes and solutions.  We make the adjustments whenever we see or hear about the problems.  We hope to have it all sorted out soon.

AGENDA FOR GRADE 7 COFFEE AUGUST 31:  What to expect in the middle year of middle school.  What are the changes in expectations, changes in physical, emotional, intellectual area, and how does a parent communicate with this new person living in the house.

SIXTH GRADE TRIP TO CUSCO:  The sixth grade will be traveling to Cusco the early morning of October 23rd  and returning by midday on the 27th. The cost of the trip this year will be $642. Payments dates are September 18th and 19th. There will be an informational meeting for parents as part of the Coffee on September 7th.  There will be an information booklet going home in the Monday Envelope on September 4th.

AGENDA FOR GRADE 6 COFFEE SEPTEMBER 7:

  • Cusco Trip info  (30 min) (Charo Castaneda/Marilyn Holladay)
  • MYP introduction (30 min) (Kirsten Welbes/Kathryn Freeburn)
  • Changes from elementary to middle school (45 min) (Roxana Remy)
    • changes in social activities
    • changes in sport system (Laurie Alba  5 minutes)
    • changes in social/emotional/intellectualle
  • Possible catering for lunch (PTA)

AGENDA FOR GRADE 8 COFFEE SEPTEMBER 14:  Eighth grade is the bridge to high school. What can the parent expect and what are some tips for supporting an eighth grade student. As students get older what are the new challenges fro them and parents on the social scene.

CAS ACTIVITIES:  On Wednesdays we do special activities at all grade levels. You should have, by now, signed a permission slip for these since some of them are off-campus. Each week we will list here in the Update what the each group will be doing.  Ask your child which group they are in.

NOTE: WEDNESDAY IS A HOLIDAY THIS WEEK.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

We have 150 Middle Schoolers signed up for 250 different activities. It’s a busy campus after 3:45 p.m.! Please ensure that your child is picked up at 3:30 p.m. if they are not in a supervised after-school activity.

Please note that students have been given two weeks to “feel out” their after-school activities. If your son/daughter would like to change activities, please have him/her contact Ms. Alba in the athletics office or email lalba@amersol.edu.pe. As of Monday, Aug. 28, we would like to have full commitment to the activities chosen.
