WELCOME to Ms Rocio Malatesta who will be teaching Grade 8 Science beginning this semester. She comes to us from Colegio Santa Maria with many years of teaching experience. She also substituted at Roosevelt in the late 1980s.

LA MOLINA RESIDENTS: Students who ride the school bus from La Molina may receive a phone call on Monday with a new pick-up time. It will be no more than 20 minutes earlier. We are coordinating with EMAPE and will adjust as time goes on. Those who drive their children to school should also plan to leave 20-30 minutes earlier to get to school on-time. Our classes begin daily at 8:00 a.m. and arriving late causes the student stress and might impact them the entire day. The roads should be better by March 8 th and improved even more by April 8 th.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Our first day of school is February 27 th. Students will arrive at school and pick up their schedules from the tables in front of the office. School begins, as usual, at 8:00 a.m. Students should come to school with notebooks, pencil cases, organizer, PE clothes, locks and other things they need. They will be having 6 of their 7 classes for 50 minutes each that day and need to be prepared to work.

SHOES:  The local stores are stocked with thousands of pairs of all black shoes.  Please take the opportunity to find ALL BLACK shoes for the students.  Not mostly black, all black.  It might have been difficult to find them in August, but February is different.  Students are allowed to wear sandals until Easter break – but they must be ALL BLACK and must be securely fastened to the foot – they need a strap at the back.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: there will be an activities assembly February 27 th and students will receive the booklet. They must turn in the forms before the end of the week since activities begin March 5 th.

POWERSCHOOL: You will not see much information in PowerSchool at this point in time because we are just beginning. We will send out information about getting back in next week.

ASSESSMENT: There will be some changes as we move into full implementation of the MYP Program. We will making some of these this semester and will keep you informed as we move along. This is a big topic.

EIGHTH GRADE PARENTS: There will be an informational meeting for parents on March 6 th at 2:30 p.m. in the Little Theater. The purpose of this meeting is to learn about the Community Focus (CoFo) projects that students will be doing during the entire semester. Please join us.

MONDAY ENVELOPS: Each student should bring home on Tuesday this week an envelop. Inside you will find the activities booklet and maybe other things. Also included this week for some students will be honor roll certificates. The envelop needs to be signed by a parent and returned by the student to the period 1 teacher the next day.
