Classroom Without Walls (CWW) trips: The Classroom Without Walls trips will be November 10-14, 2008.  Sixth graders will be traveling to Cusco, seventh graders to Iquitos, and eighth graders to Trujillo/Chiclayo. These trips are an established part of the middle school curriculum. Coordinators will be sending parents invitations to grade level meetings, which will be held on Sept. 9th at 11:05 for 6th grade parents, 1:35 for 7th grade parents and 2:30 for 8th grade parents.

8th Grade Leadership Retreat: The MS and HS counselors are coordinating the FDR Leadership Initiative 2008-09, a program to teach the skills and behaviors necessary for positive and effective leadership in our student community.   Last year, this was identified by administrators and teachers as a positive, proactive way to promote an atmosphere of caring and responsibility among our students. As leaders of the MS, all 8th grade students will attend a retreat offered by visiting consultants Rick and Caroline Nelson. On Tues. Aug. 19th at 2:15 in the Roosevelt Room, Middle School parents are invited to a forum with the Nelsons to learn more about this initiative.

Rec Night: This year’s first Rec Night will be held on Fri. Aug. 22. Dancing, games, barbecue and more!

Roosevelt Reads! Kickoff: Nearly 300 middle school students and teachers will read together in the library on Aug. 28th to kick off this year’s school-wide theme.

MYP Informational Meeting: On Aug, 28th, this session will provide information about the Middle Years Program to parents of 6th graders or those new to the school.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES are underway! There is no need for you to confirm your children's
activities...if they signed up for it, they're in. If, during the first two weeks, your child would like to change activities, please have him/her talk to me, or send me a quick email:  lalba@amersol.edu.pe

Please note the following change in our program: GYMNASTICS has been changed to Mondays
and Thursdays (instead of Fridays).

Mr. LeBoo, our new Athletic Director, has been working hard to ensure a well-rounded program to best meet the needs of our students. Look for information from him regarding our upcoming Swimming program and other options for your kids.

MATH COUNTS:  Ms. Tami Triller, 8th grade Math Teacher, is offering Math Counts to all Middle Schoolers during lunch on Tuesdays in MS108. Encourage your math enthusiasts to join up and have some fun, figuring!
