The site where we did our project was in the Cultural Center of Manchay. Manchay is a large town located in top of a hill twenty minutes from Camacho. Manchay is divided into two low Manchay and upper Manchay but the center is located in low Manchay which is closer to school. This was a facility in our project because this way we did not spend much time in transportation. The place doesn’t have many resources such as electricity or water therefore much of the population is poor. The community problem we identified in the Cultural Center of Manchay was the types of environment where the kids were. The area was not fully secure and was not welcoming at all. In the middle of the courtyard where the kids played there was an unfinished water fountain which had stones and holes in it. This was not safe because kids run around the area and could be injured. Inside the center there was a group of incomplete soft mats which were used for early stimulation. The exercises which they used the mats for safety purposes and since there was such a small quantity many of the exercises could not be done. Outside where the courtyard was located there was a garden. It was dirty and the plants were not proper for the environment of the place, therefore they were not alive. This was also due to the old soil which was dry and useless. The walls around the courtyard were white but cracked the paint was dirty. All these factors made the place look awful. The environment created there was not welcoming and discouraging especially for the children. This was the biggest issue in the center because their goal was to have a place were the ambience was cheerful, peaceful and appropriate for children who often came from violent and aggressive homes. As a result the goals of the center were not fully accomplished because of the inadequate area for the children.
