| The first thing we started doing was teaching. Every Saturday we would go with photocopies of new things for them to learn and candy to give them at the end of the class if they had participated. We also received a donation of shirts from Ms Rohter and Ms Denegri which they used as their official English uniform. |

For the books, we put an announcement in the Elementary, Middle School and High School bulletins asking people to donate books in a box we left in the library or donate their “book swap” tickets. We received a lot more than we expected. We received about sixty books and Ms Corum donated us thirty “book swap” tickets plus other book swap tickets that we got, getting a total of more than a hundred books. The day we went we also realized that their library was full of dust and very disorganized, so we spent two more hours cleaning and reorganizing the books. That helped them a lot because once in a while a volunteer came to clean the library, but he had not been able to come in the past few weeks and it was not a good place to study since the tables and benches were dusty. |

The computers were given to us a couple of weeks after we took the books there, so we did not have to worry about the library and the computer lab at the same time. We installed the one in the office the very day we took them there because that is where they keep the records of all the kids living there and of the donations received, but since it was in English and the coordinator does not understand it, the technology teacher had to help us by installing a programme. We installed the other computers three days later without anyone’s help so we helped each other when we could not fix something or anything at all. They were all installed and ready to use in two hours. |

The last thing we did was buy the balls. For that, we needed a fundraiser, but since we did not know exactly how much we needed (although we knew it was a lot) we decided to do two. Our first fundraiser was babysitting. We posted an announcement in the Monday Messenger telling parents to call us if they needed babysitting and at the same time we baby sited teachers’ children on Sundays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in the Elementary playground. We charged 25 soles per child and earned a total of 200 soles in three weekends. However, no one called us to babysit their child. Our second fundraiser was making duct tape wallets and duct tape iPod cases. The wallets were ten soles each and the price increased one sol when adding pockets or decorations. The iPod cases started at eight soles and increased if you added decorations. They were both handmade by two members of our group. We earned 300 soles and we were able to buy 12 soccer balls and 2 basket balls. We took them on our last day with the radio that Ms Gaby donated us. They all appreciated it very much and the boys wanted to play with them as soon as we took them. |
