Community Problem

As the opportunity arose to help our community, we realized that we had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into. On our first visit to Granja Hogar Angelica de Osma in Ñaña we couldn’t contain the urge of being nervous, because for the first time, it all depended on us. It was our chance to show everyone what we are capable of doing. Surprisingly the meeting turned out to be better than we expected and left with a project in our mind. We were informed that 80% of the kids that the orphanage receive suffer from severe muscular problems that affect their development. They had to travel three to four times a week to La Molina, which was a four hour round trip. This was a waste of money, energy and time, causing exhaustion among staff and children. The director’s dream had always been to have a nearby therapy center to relay on. After hearing this we decided to construct a stimulation center in the grounds of the orphanage. It all started from zero, the area was grass and they had no materials to implement the center.  At that moment we realized that we had no time to lose, we had to look for therapists, sponsors, materials among others. Our relationship with the children grew wider everyday as we began to see them as friends. Cofo became a part of our daily life for the last four months, and has taught us that “Compassion is the basis of morality” (Schopenhauer).
