When we first met the people in Granja-Hogar and we asked them about the most important need they had, they instantly told us that one of their biggest problems was the different therapies the babies needed to get in shape. At least 80% of the infants that the home receives have motor problems. The babies suffer from serious muscular problems and therefore need special and professional neurological treatment. Actually they go to ARIE (treatment center) three to four times a week. They don’t have a car, so they travel by public transportation wasting money, energy and time considering it is a four hour round trip. When children are not desired they are rejected by their mothers even during conception. These children never receive love and care. Most of them are premature and suffer traumas, so they develop growth delay. The Ñaña home does a wonderful work. They promote children for adoption and they raise the rest of them until adult life. More or less around 30 children live constantly there. Although the house is well kept they have lots of necessities. For Rossana and Chiara (director and assistant) a close place for early stimulation and therapy is necessary. Nowadays eight children between zero and two years of age receive different treatments in ARIE, where professionals decide and handle the therapies. Babies and staff travel by public transport every day to Lima from Ñaña (km 20 carretera central). This causes exhaustion and stress to everyone, children and staff. |
