Investigation: Our Project started out well, we had made some good research about our topic and were very focused in our tasks. We had done a very wise choice in rejecting our first site because it already had too much help receiving. We learned that the first place we go is not necessarily going to be the best one. We had to investigate more on places to work on. We had well prepared speeches and interviews for the directors at the site; we even sent a letter asking for acceptance of our help. We had to make a good impression and prove to them that we were completely capable of performing good work. We took pictures of the site and measured the walls we would cover and paint.

Plan/design: After learning about the site and understanding their customs we had to start designing and planning our construction and our meetings with the kids. The sooner we met with the kids, the better. We looked for experts on the field of subject which was suitable because they were the ones who helped us approach the kids. The elementary psychologist helped us learn different techniques to approach the kids without hurting their feelings. Then we met a doctor who helped us prepare speeches about how hygiene is so important, we understood that most orphanages lack hygiene even though it’s essential. We looked for pictures of trees to find examples on what we would paint on the walls; we came up with some very creative design. Taking pictures and measuring walls was a very good idea, it helped us get the exact measurement.

Creation: We were ready to create. After spending some time at the site, interacting with the children, we saw we were ready to start creating. It was a good thing that we had played with the children; otherwise they would not be accepting us. We then decided to start constructing, for that we needed to collect money for materials. We thought about organizing a raffle, but we decided not to because a lot of groups were already doing it. We earned money by presenting power points to BCP and ALICORP, they helped us a lot. We finally saw what it was like to perform a PowerPoint presentation in front of companies, it was something we took very seriously. We worked hard on those presentations and in the end they loved them. Even though it hurt, it was better to sacrifice our time and activities to work on this. We earned a lot of money with the presentations. We then bought the materials and started to construct. We think that we should have definitely planned our time better, we were acting very relaxed which taught us a lesson. The days were running out and it got a little bit complicated. But we managed it anyway. It is better not to leave things for the last moment.

Evaluate: This Project is over and all we can say is that we are more than satisfied with what we have been able to complete. We loved working with children and we would definitely repeat this experience. We admit, we did have our fighting moments for which we had to talk to Ms. Fleming. It felt good talking to her, she indeed helped us As mentioned before, it would have been a better idea if we planned our construction time meticulously instead of stressing out and rushing a bit. We learned from them that no matter who we are, we must believe in ourselves and we will always have another chance.
