As explained in the previous stage, we focused on solving the problem of literacy in Hogar de Vida.  We did this through a variety of literacy – related activities and by building a library.  The first step to do this was to create a lesson plan.  We had approximately four or five activities because, unfortunately, we didn’t have time to do any more.  Our lesson plan included a brief explanation about the activity that was completed and the list of materials that were necessary to do so. In order to build the facility, we also needed to visit companies and people that were interested in donating money towards this cause.  We had already contacted a contractor, Jose Cherre, to help us construct the facility.  We planned on going to the site and helping whenever it was possible.  Once the building of the facility was completed, we bought the necessary materials that are needed to decorate the library.  This included: books, tables, games, chair, pillows, frames, a book shelf, etc.  Our goal was to complete all of the lesson plan activities and the construction of the library.

There were several strengths and weaknesses with the plan mentioned above.  One of its strengths was that by building a library, several other aspects of the home, other than the literacy rates, could also be improved.  These included: the position of the awning, creating a safe environment and improving the children’s work habits.  Also, by doing the activities that will be in the lesson plan, the children would have the opportunity of having fun through an educational activity.  One of the plan’s weaknesses was that it would be extremely hard to obtain all of the money needed to buy the materials and to construct the facility.  We would have to visit several companies and give them a presentation similar to the upcoming Action Plan Proposal.  Although this approach may need several modifications, we were going to put all of our effort into making our goals a reality.
