The first person we called at the beginning of this CoFo project was Doctor Tony Lazara, an American pediatrician and director of the Hogar that we worked with, “Hogar San Francisco de Asis”.  This is an Hogar, in which 50 to 60 kids with different sicknesses or disabilities are taken care of, yet kids with contagious illnesses, such as AID’s and H.I.V., are not accepted nor treated here.  We visited the site several times and with Dr. Tony got to the decision that we would work on constructing a bathroom in their physical therapy room.  At first we thought that this was a very good idea because the kids would be able to access a bathroom and change room in the first floor and very easily.  Afterwards, we decided that we wanted to spend some more time with the kids at the site, so we incorporated another project into this one, which was that of working on the children’s’ self-esteem.  This was a very good topic to work at because in the Hogar the children usually felt bad about having a disability, such as having no arm or leg, or having an incognitive imperilment, which does not permit them to work as an average person would.  We started researching in the site on which kids would be able to play with us on a regular basis and we noticed that the ones that had between 8 and 12 years where the most enthusiastic and were the ones that usually stayed at the Hogar instead of going elsewhere.  We decided to look in the library for different books of arts and crafts and when looking at them we found many activities that would work.  Also, as we where concentrating on raising the children’s self-esteem through these crafts, so we asked a teacher at school if he could let us borrow a booklet that had many activites based on this subject.
