are The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Redwall. Another one of
my hobbies is playing video games especially my computer or GameCube.
One of my other likings is taking trips. My favorite places I have
been to are Miami, Orlando, Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Santo Domingo,
Aruba, Cuzco, Ica, Tarapoto and Los Angeles. My favorite food is “Salchipapas”,
a dish of sausages and French fries. However I also like sweet food
like chocolate and cookies. And these are just a few of my likings. |

Peru is a country that is distinguished by its culture. One is
the typical food. It consists of different varieties of foods from
salads to meaty foods. Some good foods are lomo saltado, which is
meat chopped up finely with rice and french-fries. Another typical
food is ceviche. It is one of the best foods in Peru. It’s
raw meat cooked in lemon and you eat it with a salad to make it
not hot. Another thing that Peru is distinguished by is its amazing
places. The most amazing place in Peru is Machu Picchu the city
of the legendary Incas. It is amazing because it was built on the
side of a mountain. I also think is one of the 5 wonders of the
world because it is amazing. Another fascinating place is Paracas.
It is located in Ica to the south of the capital of Peru Lima. Paracas
is a place were you can go on boat rides, eat the fish that the
stores offer, camp on the beach and you can also get on a small
plane and fly over the humongous lines of Nazca. The lines of Nazca
are so remarkable for many reasons. One is that you can’t
erase them and another is that they can’t they don’t
know who did them. The Festivals and celebrations play an important
role in the culture in Peru. One of the most important Festivals
is “La Semana Santa”. La Semana Santa is when Peruvians
celebrate Jesus death and his resurrection. Many people respects
this and many don’t. I like the Peruvian culture but sometimes
it gets dull.

About my family |
| In my opinion my family is a very interesting family. My family
lived in Ica until my parents’ generation. Before that time
Ica was so safe that my grandfather left his car unlocked and it wouldn’t
be stolen. However poor people began moving to Ica from small mountain
villages, making the city poor, dirty and dangerous. Therefore most
of my family moved to Lima. However, my mother-side family owns a
plantation there and my grandfather and uncles visit it very frequently.
My parents, my brother and I take a yearly trip to “Las Dunas
Resort” in Ica’s borders. There we play in the pools,
one of which has a 37-meter water slide. We also practice sand boarding.
I find this sport very entertaining. I feel great when the wind whizzes
by me as I speed down a dune. “Las Dunas” has many other
fun activities, however the ones I mentioned are my favorite. My family
has many traditions One of my favorite traditions is to invite my
father-side cousins for a sleep-over and a chocolate egg hunt every
Easter. Another tradition is to celebrate Christmas, even though we
aren’t Christians. We celebrate it as a family reunion with
father-side uncles and cousins instead of as a religious festivity.
When midnight comes on Christmas Eve we open the presents, which have
sat under the tree for several weeks. From the lower boughs of the
tree hang crystal balls of various colors ranging from green and blue
to red and yellow. Wrapped around and around the tree is a long string
of multi-colored lights. And on the tip of the tree is a shiny silver
point. Christmas is a joyful time in my family. My family doesn’t
have many politicians. However my grandfather was the Minister of
Justice in 1982. This was during President Belaunde’s second
governing period. These are just a few of the reasons because of which
I like my family. |

Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) isn’t just
labor and no amusement. In fact this school is bursting with all kinds
of entertaining activities to do. Something fun, which I enjoy about FDR,
is wall climbing. I practice this sport as an after-school activity on
Fridays. It consists in climbing up to the top of a 10-meter tall wall
with a rope attached to a harness worn around the waist. To climb the
wall, “rocks”, made of plastic and wood, have been drilled
into the wall. Some walls have obstacles called “overhangs”
in which the wall becomes a roof and the climber must continue climbing
horizontally. I feel superb when I reach the top of the mammoth wall and
look down at the ground far below me. The sight is simply breathtaking.
The people look diminutive, cars resemble toys and the grass looks like
a single green carpet. The trees seem as small as twigs from the top of
the wall. Another recreation time I have apart from after-school is recess.
During my recess I normally play 4-square. This game consists in hitting
a rubber ball back and forth between four players standing on a square
court divided into four smaller squares (one for each player). A player
can’t grab the ball or hit it with any body part other than the
hands. A player loses if can’t answer a shot. He also loses if he
hits the ball into his own court or hits the ball out of the court. The
person who begins the point is called the server. When somebody loses,
he or she goes to the end of the line of people waiting to play. The court
rotation works like this counter-clockwise when somebody loses: the first
person in line goes to the 1st square. Then the person in the 1st square
goes to the 2nd square. After that the person in the 2nd square goes to
the 3rd square. Finally the person in the 3rd square goes to the 4th square
(server square). I other words, the person in the square before the loser’s
goes to the loser’s square and so on until the first person in line
enters the 1st square. Wall climbing and 4-square are just two of all
the recreational activities available at FDR. It’s hard to believe
that some people believe there’s nothing entertaining to do at FDR.
