Scientific Name: Pistia stratiotes

Spanish Name: Lechuga acuatica

Size: There are two different tips, one is 6-7 in and the anther is 3-4in and the roots can grow up to 12in.

Location:  This plant is generally found under maintenance control in Florida.  However, there can also be found in the amazon jungle.

Diet: This plant eats the nutrients that are in the water it habitats.
 

Predators:  Its main predator is the Amazon Ox Manatee (Trichechus inunguis).
 

Adaptations: The water lettuces have long roots to reach and get nutrients for its survival.  
 
 

Interesting Facts:
  • Water lettuces are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
  • Water lettuces roots are good hiding places for small fish and insects to hide in.
