The ocelot

The ocelot is a fascinate animal. It lives in the tropical rainforest of central and South America. He stays on the ground and sometimes he climbs to the understory layer. The ocelot has lot of special characteristics that make him one of the coolest animals of the rainforest.

The ocelot looks a lot like a common house cat, only that it is twice its size. The fur of the ocelot is yellow/tawny covered with black spots all around the body. It has strong legs and very sharp and big teeth. The ocelot tail measures 14 inches long. He uses his big white teeth to feed himself.

The ocelot is a very active animal and he needs to eat a lot of food. The ocelot eats once to twice a day. His diet is made from small rodents as rats and mice, reptiles as lizards, ghettos, and amphibians like frogs. The ocelot likes to eat his food on top of trees, so he can see everything that is around him. He jumps from trees, where he lives, to catch his food.

The ocelot lives in almost all the rainforests of central and South America. The ocelot sleeps and passes most of his time on the forest floor, but sometimes he goes up to the understory layer to catch his preys or to eat his food. The ocelot lives with no more than one couple, and sometimes all alone e. The ocelot hides his babies in the trees so they can be safe from enemies.

The ocelot has a special way to protect his babies. Right after the baby is born, the mother and father ocelot gives him protection for only one year. When the baby is one year old, he leaves his parents to start his own life. The baby learns everything from his parents, from hunting to how to stay alive. The father ocelot teaches the baby about their enemies, the poachers and the hunters. They hunt the ocelots because they have a very beautiful fur that is use to make fancy cloth. Poachers are people that get inside the rainforest illegally to hunt or take things that are protected by a law. As he protects his babies, he also needs to protect himself.

The ocelot protects himself using his speed, agility and strength. The ocelot goes to the water when hunters are chasing him, he is a very fast swimmer. He also climbs trees to protect himself from hunter and poachers. This way the hunters don’t see him. The ocelot uses his harp nails and big jaws if he is forced to attack. The ocelot is also a very fast runner; he uses this to escape from his enemies. The colorful skin of the ocelot helps him to camouflage from predators. As you can see, the ocelot jaws a very special ways of protecting himself, he also has special ways to reproduce.

The ocelot has a unique way of reproducing. The ocelot can reproduce in any season of the year, but it needs to be in the night. No more than 2 babies are born from the mother's belly; each 2 1/2 to three years, a new baby is born. The mother and father will stay together to make the survival rate of the baby very high.

After 11 months that the parents mated, the baby is born. Because only 1 or 2 babies are born, the chance of staying a live is very high. The baby could only die if a predator like anaconda, eats him, if poachers hunt him or if he dies because a disease. The ocelot has adapted to stay alive in the rainforest.

The ocelot has been adapting to live better in the rainforest. The ocelot is a nocturnal animal; he uses his big yellow eyes to see in the night. He hunts in the night when most of the animals are asleep. The ocelot spots help him camouflage to fool his prey and hunters. He also is a very fast runner and swimmer; he uses this to run from his enemies and to catch his preys. The ocelot is a very good climber; he climbs the trees very fast and easily. Although the ocelot has adapted perfectly to the rainforest he is specie in endangered to extinct. There are very few ocelots in the world because they hunt them for their pressure skin. They use his skin to make coats and other type of cloth. The ocelot also has unique and interesting facts.

The ocelot has big yellow eyes that help him see in the night. He also has only 4 toes because he doesn’t need anymore. The ocelot climbs down trees head down because this way it is more secure. The father and mother ocelot never hunts together. After the baby is left alone, he never sees his parents again. The ocelot is a very solitary animal.

So in conclusion, the ocelot is a fascinate animal. It is full of unique characteristics that make this animal so fun to learn about. Now that I know a lot about the ocelot, and that it is endangered, I am going to try to do something to protect him as contributing to an Endangered Helping Association.
