Scientific Name: Saimiri Sciureus

Spanish Name: Mono Ardilla

Size: 10-14 inches (26-36 cm). 14-17 inches (35-42.5 cm). Weight: 19-44 ounces.

Life span: Life span is 15 to 21 years.

Diet:
    Their diet consists of insects, fruits, frogs, snails, spiders, and small birds.

Predators:
    Their predators are humans and birds. 

Adaptations:
    Squirrel monkeys move through the trees by leaping. They have thighs that are shorter relative to their lower legs; this allows more jumping force. They also having a long tail which allows them to hold onto tree branches, for extra support.

Habitats:
   
Their habitat consists of dense vegetation which provide good cover from birds of prey.  Also, rainforests, savannah, mangroves, or marshlands.

Interesting Facts:
    Can move almost silently through the upper canopy. They make large sounds to alarm themselves and others when a predator is coming. They are in groups from 20 to 100, with male and female monkeys. 24% of Golden Backed Squirrel Monkeys are positive with Malaria.  These peaceful monkeys are often taking out of their environment and transported to zoos or labs for medical research.
