Spanish NamePlanta Imitadora Katydid

Size: Katydids are range in size from 1 1/4 to 5 in. (3?12.5 cm) long.

Life span:  Males and Females have a life span of 9 months

Diet: Katydids feed on trees in the rainforests of Peru.   THey feed on leaves, stems, flowers and fruits of a variety of
plants. They also form an important part of the diet of many animals higher up in the food chain, especially monkeys, birds and bats.
 
 

Predators: . Katydids are attackedby sharp-eyed and hungry predators, from bats and birds to snakes and shrews. Katydids camuflage in leafs to hide from predators.

Adaptations:  Katydids have to camaflauge to leafs in which predators won't cath them or eat them so they have to adapt to only certain kinds of leafs becuase if the insect is brown it can't camaflauge in a green leaf.
 

Interesting Facts: Their singing at ni ght is characteristic. Katydids are sometimes called longhorn grasshoppers due to their long thin antennae. Katydids get their name from the way their songs sound.One of the things that makes them different from their relatives is their antennae which may be two or three times the length of their body. These antennae are covered with sensory receptors that allow katydids to find their way around in the dark, when most of them are active.There are some 4,000 species of katydids in the world.  There are some 4,000 species of katydids in the world.
