English  Name: Poison Arrow Frog

Scientific Name: Dendrobatis Leucomelas

Spanish Name: Ranas de la Flecha del Veneno

Size: Most are half an inch in length

Life span: about eleven and a half years

Diet: 
 Mostly insects like flightless fruit flies, small crickets, termites, and ants. 

Predators: 
  The poison protects the poison arrow frogs from most predators except the snake Lemaidophis Epinephelus. The cat eyed snake eats the frog eggs.
 
 

Adaptations:

  • Their skin secrets poison which helps to not be eaten.
  • They are very small and not easy to spot and stay mostly on the jungle floor.
  • They have very bright colors that warn the other animals that they are not fit to eat.
Interesting Facts:
  • The father stays with the baby frogs until they are ready to take care of themselves.
  • has special skin that releases poison.
  • females are bigger and thicker than males.
  • These frogs are not shy at all.
  • They lay eggs in water and cover them with foam that gives the eggs oxygen and nutrients. 
  • Mucus keeps their skin sticky and moist.
  • They live in the jungle floor among the leaves.
