English  Name: Pirhana
Scientific Name: Pygocentrus or Serrasalmus

Spanish Name: Piraña

Size: Average 6-8 inches in length

Life span: Unknown to us, but they probably live for several years.

Diet: Smaller fishes, but anything that falls into
the water could be attaked.  Babies will eat anything that moves!  Most don't attak and eat humans. 
 

Predators: Humans 
 

Adaptations: 
It needs its sharp teeth to tear food apart.  It only eats meat, so without it's sharp teeth, it would not survive.  
 

Interesting Facts:

-Scientists believe that the ferocity of a pirhana is exaggerated.
-The most dangerous pirhana may reach 2 ft in length!!!!
-The jaws are so strong and teeth so sharp that they can chop out a piece of flesh as neatly as a razor.
- Sometimes pirhanas hunt in shoals, sometimes of several thousand!!
-Some travellers  now say that they have waded in or swam in rivers infested with pirhana shoals and have never been atacked.
