Historical Text Archive This is a good metadata site…you can search for articles, ebooks, or links and find great links.  The content on the site is general in scope, but the links are worthwhile.
Internet Public Library The Internet Public Library is another great place to search.  Your search will bring several annotated results of valid websites.
The Memory Project From the Memory Project at the Library of Congress.  This gives a brief history of the American Dream, and then several useful links.  The focus is on immigration and civil rights.
Librarian's Internet Index This is the Librarian’s Internet Index, which links you to verified websites.  You will have to search for your term once you are in the site, however.
20th Century by decade A decade by decade guide to US history.  The information is a bit brief, but there are hyperlinked pages.
20th Century year by year

A very in-depth look at yearly events in the United States.  The descriptions often have links to more descriptive entries.  Be careful in determining what is significant!
