Gulag and Stalin A sample chapter from the book, Cannibal Island.  This chapter sets the scene of one of the more bizarre episodes of GULAG history, wherein an island became a prison and the prisoners turned to cannibalism due to the poor planning and lack of food
  Public Library collection of photos of the GULAG system.   A good digital image resource.
  An excellent online exhibit of the GULAG.  Gives an idea of daily life as well as background, images, and what happened to the GULAGs.
  Another good online GULAG exhibit.  Some of this exhibit is incomplete, but what is complete is valuable.
  This site shows the falsification of photographs that occurred under Stalin.  The photos are quite stunning and show the degree to which Stalin suspected and punished perceived enemies.
  Art under Stalin.  The images depict the style of art popular in the USSR, a very specific and powerful style.
  A tolerably good powerpoint from a university course.  The ppt explains the basics of life under Stalin, including some images.  Note the power and success with which Stalin was able to create a different, fabricated world.
