Laptops FAQ
How long do batteries last?
Each laptop is set up with a battery that will give the user 3+
hours of dedicated use. You can check the battery life on the control
strip (bottom left) at the menu bar (top right)
How do I connect to the airport base in
the lab or media center?
Connecting the airport base in the media center or HS lab is simple.
- Find the Location Manager on the
Control strip. Choose the appropriate type of network connection:
Airport et voila!
If the computer doesn't connect to the
network, what should I do?
Check that the computer is setup to connect using the airport. Go
to the control strip and open the "Location Manager" and
choose "Airport". Look at the status of the airport signal
on the control strip. If it doesn't reconnect, restart the machine.
If the problem persists, call for tech support.
The network seems slow. Why is that?
As in any computer classroom, instructors should expect a slower
response time in a computer classroom than while working independently.
Response from the network will lag if all laptops are accessing
the same page or file at the same time.
What is the proper way to put away the
laptops when we are finished?
First, make sure to properly "Quit" all applications.
Go to "Special" on the menu bar and then choose the "Shut
Down" option. This will bring the system down properly so that
the laptop will function well for the next person.

The computer is protected by FoolProof. Saving is allowed only in
your folders on the network (student - server, web-server, staff-server)
and the "Data Folder" on the hard drive.
