High School Guidance Philosophy

Students attending FDR's High School have access to guidance services throughout their school years. From initial orientation for new students, guidance counselors help students adjust to FDR's college preparatory curriculum and multicultural environment. Guidance counselors work within a developmental guidance program that attempts to meet the ever-changing social, academic, and emotional needs of students. Guidance services include:

The extensive university resource library located in the HS Guidance Office provides students with resources and information for choosing college and career directions. A comprehensive developmental guidance program offers many benefits to FDR students. Some benefits are:

  • Students benefit from the opportunity to become knowledgeable about and experience guidance services
  • Parents benefit from the opportunity to be involved in their child's educational experiences as well as make use of counseling services
  • Teachers benefit by having a team partner who assists in developing methods which lead to improvement in student learning and personal adjustment
  • Administrators and school board members benefit by having a knowledge base of the goals, purposes, and operations of the guidance program,
  • Guidance Counselors benefit by having a clear mission with structured goals and activities which are understood by the school staff and members of the community.
