The High School Parents Advisory would like to help those families
needing
a TI-83 Graphing Calculator.
There are now two options for those families in need of a TI-83 calculator.
1. Parents in Education (PIE) has purchased TI-83 plus graphing calculators
that students can rent for a fee of $15 per semester. Interested students
should go to the PIE office on campus to rent those calculators.
2. The High School Parents Advisory would like to help those families
needing a TI-83 Graphing Calculator connect with travelers willing to
purchase one while they are in the USA.
If you are traveling to the USA in the near future and are willing
to
purchase a TI-83 Graping Calculator or if you are looking for someone
who
would agree to purchase a calculator for you, given the cash upfront,
then please get in touch with Mary K. Hecker at 368-1999 or maxdog249@hotmail.com.
Beginning with MYP 9 Mathematics, students at Colegio Roosevelt
are required to have a graphing calculator. In all HS mathematics classes, a graphing calculator will be used extensively
by the students. It is a great advantage for the student as most
of the better colleges and universities in the United States and Europe
now require students to have and be able to use a graphing calculator
for their college math and science classes. The SAT exam in math
also allows the use of a graphing calculator.
Graphing calculators are available here in Peru. Because the
price is much less in the United States, it may be advantageous to purchase
one there. There are numerous brands of graphing calculators,
some of which are not allowed on an IB math exam or an AP Calculus exam.
For example, many Hewlett-Packard graphing calculators and the TI-92
and TI-89 are not allowed on an IB exam. Our students have found Texas Instruments,
especially the TI-83
, TI-83Plus,
or TI-84 series to be excellent
calculators that are easy to use. Since our textbooks also refer
specifically to Texas Instruments calculators, it is highly recommended
that students also use one of these calculators.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to have your son/daughter
talk with their math teacher for further information.
