CAS (Creativity, Action & Service)

To obtain the IB diploma, students must take six subjects, and fulfill three requiremnts: the Extended Essay, CAS, Theory of Knowledege. CAS has set requirements that must be met by al students, mainly it gives balance to the students lifes. It includes taking part in creative activities, community service, and some kind of action. This will add balance to the students life, and prevent them from getting absorbed into studying thereby exposing them to situation in which they can grow into well-rounded persons.

The Cas programme must occupy a minimum of 150 hours throughout the IB Diploma course, a student has to participate in three different activities; one per area of CAS. This minimum must be met by a constant involement in all areas (3-4 hours) a week.

    • CAS aims to provide individual student challenge in three areas, Creativity, Action and Service.
    • CAS aims to provide opportunities for service, where a student's talents and time will be developed for the benefit of others as well as to their own development and understanding.
    • CAS aims to complement the demands of the academic disciplines of the curriculum, and to counterbalance the academic self-absorption of the IB student and the privileged status of many IB students and schools.
    • CAS aims to challenge and extend the individual student by developing a spirit of discovery and self-reliance and by encouraging individual skills and interests.
    • Should an IB Diploma student fail to fulfil the CAS requirements, the CAS Supervisor is obliged to report this to IBO. This will normally result in no diploma being given until the requirements have been met.
