The NHS induction process goes as follows:

1. School officials notify parents of newly selected members on the phone about the date place, and time of the induction ceremony. Parents are asked to show up at the Round House at least 15 minutes before ceremony commencement.

2. The parents are also asked not to tell their children about their selection—students will find out the same day of the ceremony. Surprise is a very important element for the audience as well as the new members.

3. The ceremony itself is completely detailed in a handout format and distributed to the Superintendent, Principal, Advisor, President, and Vice-President of the Society.

4. Parents will appear at the place of the ceremony when the Principal calls out their child’s name. There will be an official photographer to complement the normal videotaping of the event, so parents will not be worried about keeping remembrances of this event.

5. Parents and faculty are invited to a reception in the Roosevelt Room.

6. The ceremony lasts from 60 to 70 minutes—it varies according to how many new members are inducted.

7. The date of the ceremony should be announced to faculty a year in advance.
