Roosevelt Helps

Our School's Response

The purpose of this message is to inform our Roosevelt community of our collective response and the efforts we are making together to help those affected by the devastating floods and huaicos (mudslides) in Northern Peru and parts of Lima.

Here you will find:

  1. our community service and donation opportunities;
  2. a resource document on how to get involved and staying safe; and
  3. opportunities to share your stories.
1. DONATION OF FOOD, SUPPLIES, and FUNDS & Volunteer WORK

Many of our community members are eager and ready to help as a school community. With the coordination of the Global Citizenship Program (GCP) Team, Colegio Roosevelt has joined forces with the Office of the First Lady of Peru, Mrs. Nancy Kuczynski, to support the #UnaSolaFuerza campaign. We have determined this donation collection is the most efficient and direct way our donations can reach people who are most in need of supplies and food.

We are asking the school community for their generous donation of food and hygiene supplies when students come back to school. At this time, we anticipate to be back to school on Monday, March 27. From Monday, March 27 through Friday, March 31, students and staff are encouraged to donate specific items, sorted by grade level and division. These items are to be dropped off in the designated spaces in the PAC Lobby area.

Students in each grade level are encouraged to donate items from the list below. The amount of items to bring are a suggested minimum and students can bring as many items from this list as they like. Each item should be able to fit into a care package.

Colegio Roosevelt will host days of service work with community member volunteers to help assemble these donated items into care packages. These packages will be then delivered to one of the government’s distribution centers. There will be volunteer service opportunities open to the community on Wednesday, March 29th starting at 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday, April 1st starting at 9:00 a.m. to help assemble the donated items into care packages. More details about volunteer service work will be shared soon.

An additional way to help is by making a financial contribution.

Colegio Roosevelt has set up a special bank account where we can all contribute as a community.
All funds collected now until Saturday, April 1st will be donated to Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil - INDECI (Peruvian National Institute for Civil Defense) on behalf of our Colegio Roosevelt community.
