version en Español

Welcome to the Roosevelt Reads! Hub

Our Mission:  The Roosevelt Reads! mission is to have a school-wide, year-long celebration to unite us as a community of readers and promote a life-long love of reading in any language.  By the end of the year, we want teachers, students, staff and parents to be a community of confident, capable, and enthusiastic readers.

  • VISITING LOCAL AUTHOR
We are pleased to announce that on Friday, Dec. 5, Jorge Eslava, a Peruvian writer of over 20 books for children, will be visiting FDR to present to Grades 1 through 6. Mr. Eslava is the author of “El Capitán Centella” series and “Florentino Supercochino” among others.
Mr. Eslava will be at school to read from his books and take questions from students as part of our ongoing celebration of Roosevelt Reads! Students have a chance to buy copies of the author's books before his visit, at a special price, and Mr. Eslava will autograph them and deliver them on the day of his visit. Please stop by the library to preview Jorge's books!

  • LIBRRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The library is looking for volunteers!  If you'd like to read to an early childhood class every Monday or Thursday, please contact to the ES librarian, Karen Choan, at kchoan@amersol.edu.pe.  If you'd like to help with library tasks such as shelving or covering books, stop by any time; we'll put you to work!

  • CITY OF EMBER DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
*Clary tells Lina, "Everyone has some darkness inside." (p. 168) Light and color both play very key roles in the novel. In what ways, other than the failing street lamps, are color and light important?
*The possibility of never-ending darkness changes many of Lina's friends and many of the townspeople. She discovers that her friend Lizzie has begun to accept things from Looper, who is stealing things from the storerooms. Why does Lina turn down the gifts that Lizzie offers her? Do you think that she was right to do so?  What would you
have done in the same situation?
