SCHOOL HEADLINES

  • ROOSEVELT HOLIDAY BAZAAR
    Shop 'Til You Drop at the Holiday Bazaar! Colegio Roosevelt will host a Holiday Bazaar on Friday, November 6th from 9am to 5pm only for all school families and friends of Roosevelt (our Embassy and corporate friends, personal friends and families of school families, and members of ACAP). On Saturday, November 7th, the Holiday Bazaar will be open to the public, from 9am to 5pm. Ticket for the Holiday Bazaar are S/10 per day or S/.15 for a two-day pass.

 

  • THINK GREEN - ACT GREEN T-SHIRTS
    The Green Team is proud to offer 100% organic cotton Think Green - Act Green t-shirts to promote our Thematic Year. Students can dress out of uniform and wear their Think Green - Act Green t-shirts every Roosevelt Green Day this year (our next Green Day is November 13!)
    T-shirts cost S/.30.00 Samples of each t-shirt size are available in the ES, MS and HS Offices. Please send your order forms to your homeroom teachers and t-shirt will be delivered before our next Green Day. The Green Team will also sell t-shirts in the Roosevelt Holiday Bazaar on November 6 & 7.

 

  • ARTS WEEK 2009
    We had a fantastic Arts Week! A big thank you to all our talented students and staff performers and participants, who made this year's Arts Week musical, artistic and dramatic!
    A special thank you goes to the Arts Promotion Team (art/drama/music teachers and admin) who worked very hard to organize Arts Week.

 

  • ARTS WEEK PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST RESULTS
    Congratulations to our Arts Week Photography contest winners: Blas Aramburú (Kindergarten), Maria Pamela Peláez (MS 8) and Nélida Heredia (FDR Parent)! Check out their winning photographs at http://www.amersol.edu.pe/fdr/ArtsWeekphotowinners.pdf
    Their photographs will be in this year's Online Auction and published in next year's 2010-2011 Activities Calendar! We thank everyone who submitted photographs and invite everyone to continue to enjoy the photography display in the Middle School computer lab in the Media Center.

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS


CONGRATULATIONS GIANNI PORCARI
HS student Gianni Porcari, currently in the Peruvian National Surf Team, will be competing in the Pan American Surfing Games in Brazil in November. Gianni is one of the rising stars in the Peruvian surf circuit and has qualified to participate in the Open category. Congratulations and good luck, Gianni!

ECO CLUB MOVIE NIGHT: WALL-E
The High School Eco Club is sponsoring a Movie Night featuring Disney Pixar's Wall-E in the Elementary Gym on Wednesday, November 4th. Pre-show activities involving eco-related experiments start at 5:00 pm and the movie starts at 5:30 pm sharp. Tickets (S/. 5) will be sold at the Elementary School Office and at the door, however there’s limited seating so first come-first served! Popcorn and other refreshments will be available for purchase. Green Organic t-shirts (brought to you by the Green Team) will be available for S/. 30 during the Movie Night. Don’t forget to bring pillows and blankets! Note: Elementary students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


COLEGIO ROOSEVELT'S SUMMER CAMP 2010
Colegio Roosevelt's Summer Camp offers you the best alternative for your children’s summer vacations.  When? January 4 to 29, 2010 - Monday to Friday, 8:45 am to 12 noon. Children may participate in a fun-filled four-week program which offers activities such as: Global English, Jungle Math, Art Safari, Summer Cooking, Summer Fun Science, Swimming, Badminton, Roller Hockey, Fun Games, Soccer and Wall Climbing.  High School students may benefit by taking the SAT Preparation course (Tuesday through Thursday). EC/KINDERGARTEN ADMISSIONS 2010 - 2011
Please be informed that the application process for children applying to Early Childhood and Kindergarten for August 2010 is underway. Applications will be accepted through December 14. . Student evaluations will be scheduled between March – April 2010. Please contact Ms. Nora Marquez in the Office of Admissions (tel 435-0890, extension 4008 or nmarquez@amersol.edu.pe for details.


STUDENT WITHDRAWALS
If your children will be withdrawing from school at the end of this semester, please inform the school at your earliest convenience. Parents should contact the Office of Admissions with either a letter indicating withdrawal or by filling out the withdrawal form available in all three school offices as well as in the Round House. For security purposes, all school ID's issued to adults must be returned. Thank you for your cooperation.


SCHOOL MAKE UP DAYS
The following dates were approved by the Board to make up five days of school closure in August. Please ensure to mark them in your School Activities Calendar:
- 4 full days on Wednesdays: October 14 (done), December 9, March 10 and March 24
(each Wednesday counts as one half of a make up day)
- Thursday, February 25, 2010
- Friday, February 26, 2010

DANNY, THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD SIGN-UP
Have you already read the ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY pick this year? It's "Danny, the Champion of the World" by Roald Dahl! Stop by the library to sign the Reader's Log, at the main desk, near the book drop.  We'll keep track again of how many hundreds of people in the community have read the same book.  While you're there, ask at the desk about the next Visiting Author, and think about reading one of their titles before they come.

ROOSEVELT READS! FAMILY FUN NIGHT

Come and join us on Wednesday, November 18th from 4:30-6:30 in the Media Center for another Roosevelt Reads Family Fun Night! There will be games, raffle prizes, and a huge knowledge bowl focusing on "Danny, Champion of the World".  Last year, over 250 people showed up and the excitement was contagious.  See you there!


UPCOMING VISITING AUTHORS
Marie Arana, author of American Chica, Lima Nights, and Cellophane, will address FDR students on December 7 from 2:20-3:20 in the Little Theater.  A limited number of her titles are available for purchase in the library.

Noted Peruvian author and TV personality Jaime Bayly will address FDR students in March.  

Author Minfong Ho will be on the FDR campus April 5-9 and will be working with all levels of students.  The media center has a limited number of her books available for purchase. 


NEW MEDIA CENTER SERVICE

The FDR Media Center announces another 24/7 portal for student needs.  Students can email refdesk@amersol.edu.pe outside of school hours if they have an information need such as citation help or finding correct information.  Remember too that the media center web page offers links to our research databases, our catalog of library resources (OPAC) and helpful links based on contemporary classroom units.  See you @ the library!

ATHLETICS & AQUATICS ANNOUNCEMENTS


NO AFTERSCHOOL ACTIVITIES NOVEMBER 12 & 13
There will be NO AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES (ES, MS and HS) on Thursday, November 12 and Friday, November 13 as FDR is hosting the SAAC Soccer Tournament.
Please come support FDR CONDOR Soccer Team!! Schedules will be posted around school and on the Athletics Webpage!

First, I would like to thank you all for your patience concerning emails... We have tried very hard to get as much information to you as possible. THE GOOD NEWS!: The Athletics and Activities webpage is up and running (thanks to Brad Kurtz and team!). You will see Athletic and Activity information on this page. Also, game schedules, results, relevant forms etc. Please take a moment to check it out. We will also continue to use the Monday Messenger to send new information.

SAAC SOCCER – HOSTS NEEDED
SAAC Soccer for high school girls and boys!! The tournament will be hosted at Roosevelt on November 12-14. Teams arrive on Wednesday the 11th. WE NEED HOSTS! If you would like to help us by hosting to athletes for 3 nights (Chile, Argentina, Ecuador) or 4 nights (Uruguay) please contact Steve LeBoo (sleboo@amersol.edu.pe) or Laurie Alba (lalba@amersol.edu.pe).


BICYCLES ON CAMPUS
The use of bikes will be allowed on campus from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays only. PARENTS MUST BE WITH THEIR CHILDREN (no nannies please). Please check in with Carmen Pinillos in the HS Gym. Kids and parents may ride their bikes on the track and side walk areas. All persons riding bikes must wear helmets. Cyclist ride at their own risk. NO SKATEBOARDS or SCOOTERS. Bikes only please.

The Colegio Roosevelt Holiday Online Auction will be held from Tuesday, December 1st until Monday, December 7th. Don't miss out on previewing items at special events throughout that week. If you or someone you know is interested in donating an item and/or service to help raise funds for the Performing Art Center, please contact us at pta@amersol.edu.pe.


FAMILY DIRECTORIES
The new 2009-2010 Family Directories have arrived! They will be delivered via courier beginning Monday, October 26th. If you have not received yours by Friday, November 6th, please email us at pta@amersol.edu.pe . Also, softcover pocketbook Family Directories may be purchased for S/.10 at the PTA Office from 8:00am to 3:30pm daily.

ACAP BLACK & WHITE GALA BALL
This year's Black & White Gala Ball by the American Canadian Association of Peru (ACAP) will be decorated for Thanksgiving and there will be great food, music and dancing!
