- “Children Reaching Out to Children” Earthquake Donation
The Middle and Elementary schools collected supplies for children who are in need after the earthquake. The Scouts of Peru (located in Zaragoza 131, Urb La Castellana, Surco telephone 271-0334 email
guiascouts@speedy.com.pe ) and El Rinconcito Infantil (an organization for children) organized a collection for children and we would like to support their effort.
There was a wonderful response to this initiative and we thank all families for supporting this cause!

- “Niños Ayudando A Otros Niños”
La Escuela Primaria y Middle School recolectaron víveres para niños que los necesitan, luego del terremoto. Los Scouts del Perú (localizados en Zaragoza 131, Urb. La Castellana, Surco – teléfono 271-0334 email
guiascouts@speedy.com.pe ) y la organización El Rinconcito Infantil han organizado una colecta para los niños y nos gustaría apoyar su esfuerzo.
Esta iniciativa ha sido muy positiva, y agradecemos a todas las familias que donaron.

- MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS HELPING MERCY CORPS
On Tuesday, August 28th, during the Middle School Back to School afternoon, 20 students supported the Mercy Corps (Portland, Oregon) earthquake relief initiative by helping pack 900 bags with non-perishable food for earthquake survivors in Hoja Redonda area of Chincha.

- ALUMNOS DEL MIDDLE SCHOOLS AYUDAN A MERCY CORPS
El mártes 28 de agosto, durante la Tarde de Regreso a Clases de Middle School, 20 alumnos voluntarios ayudaron al Mercy Corps de Portland, Oregon a empacar 900 bolsas con víveres no perecibles para su distribución a las víctimas del terrremoto en la comunidad de Hoja Redonda en Chincha. El representante de Mercy Corps y ex-padre de familia del Colegio, Carlos Cárdenas, fue el encargado de llevar las bolsas para su distribución.

- PTA SPONSORS DONATION CENTER FOR CHINCHA
This week we started a blanket & water donation and we had a wonderful response from our community. The PTA has expanded its collection to include other necessary items such as clothing, toys and food. We have been told that presently tents or large rolls of plastic that can be used as tents are urgently needed. There is also a special need now for dried foods such as rice, milk, dried beans, sugar, pastas and other basic necessities. So please take the time to share what you can at one of our two, on-campus designated donation sites: either in front of the Round House, or infront of the PTA office area driving through Gate #4.
Thanks to help from the Masías family, who have been part of our Roosevelt community for twogenerations, and a group of alumni parents led by Stella Hartinger and Marisol Ayulo de Garcia, we have arranged to donate all goods that come through Roosevelt to the community of Chincha. The Masías family has agreed to donate transportation through their Hacienda La Calera, that will send trucks regularly to pick up goods, and to ensure that all our
donations will be handled through the Hacienda which is working with the Chincha Chamber of Commerce to make sure that donations make it to people in need.

Esta semana tuvimos una gran respuesta por parte de nuestra comunidad para los damnificadosdel terremoto en el Sur. Ahora el PTA estará expandiendo su colecta para incluirotras donaciones como ropa, zapatos, juguetes, y comida no perecible (arroz, leche, legumbres, azúcar, fideos). Nos han informado que también se necesita con urgencia carpas o piezas grandes de plástico para utilizar como carpas. Continuaremos
recibiendo su gentil ayuda en las siguientes áreas designadas:

Gracias a la ayuda de la Familia Masías, quienes son parte de nuestra comunidad del Roosevelt por dos generaciones, y Stella Hartinger y Marisol Ayulo de García, madres de famila de ex -
alumnos, hemos coordinado que toda las doniaciones del Roosevelt sean destinadas a lacomunidad de Chincha. La familia Masías ha dispuesto el transporte mediante su hacienda, La Calera, y enviará las donaciones regularmente a las áreas afectadas. La Cámara de Comercio de Chincha estará trabajando de manera conjunta con La Calera para asegurar el reparto de nuestras donaciones para los más necesitados.

- Roosevelt Alumna, Class of 2007: Alexandra (Lexi) Saavedra arranged a beautiful Candle Light Vigil at a Catholic Grotto in Portland, Oregon. She invited a poet to read, a priest to say some healing prayers and Peruvian musician Alfredo Muro shared traditional Peruvian music. Mercy Corps was there to collect donations!

Volunteer Peru Foundation
Volunteer Peru Foundation focus has two parts (1) Providing funding for projects throughout Peru and (2) organizing volunteer missions to these projects.
Volunteer Peru Foundation is collecting money and supplies to deliver to
these troubled regions of Ica, Pisco and Chincha. They have divided their earthquake aid in 3 different areas: 1) Relief, 2) Recontruction and 3)Breaking the poverty cycle.
