LD High School Program |
Colegio Franklin D. Roosevelt recognizes that certain individuals have special educational needs. The Learning Differences Program (LD) provides support for students who have been diagnosed with a specific, mild to moderate learning difference which impedes academic progress. A holistic assessment is conducted to evaluate if a student meets the LD Program’s eligibility criteria. We believe that cooperation and teamwork are key elements of a positive learning experience; therefore, education is a shared responsibility of parents, students and the school.
Students in the LD Program may receive services through different models (refer to Elementary School LD Program, Middle School LD Program, High School LD Program). Students may be in the program under two different statuses: fully included or on a monitoring status. When a student is fully included in the program he/she has an Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.) The IEP determines the educational goals for each student and the class accommodations needed to optimize his/her learning conditions. This plan is rewritten yearly and completely re-evaluated every three years. When a student is on the monitoring status he/she has a Monitoring Status Contract that outlines his/her goals, responsibilities and accommodations on such status.
Staffing support for the LD program is limited. A student requiring services for more than three hours a week in the elementary school, or more than two periods a day in the middle and high school will need to seek another more appropriate educational setting. Colegio Roosevelt does not have the resources to serve children who have serious learning, emotional or physical challenges. As stated in the Roosevelt Board Policy the school is able to serve only those who are able to function successfully in the regular program with minimal support.
