Overseas Faculty Manual - Where Would You Like
to Live?
There are several districts
in Lima where teachers often choose to live.
LA MOLINA is a large popular
district with different areas. Public transportation is plentiful (Javier
Prado is the main street and it is 5 blocks from the school’s main
gate on Av. Las Palmeras).
SAN
ISIDRO: San Isidro is a beautiful residential area of
mostly apartment buildings. Movie theaters, restaurants, public transportation,
gyms, hospitals, and churches are all easily accessible. Normally, it
takes 20 minutes to drive from/to school, but in rush hour, it could take
30 to 45 minutes. Rents are similar to those in Miraflores.
MIRAFLORES: Miraflores is
a very popular area next to the ocean, with old and new buildings. Apartments rent from US$
500 to US$ 2,000 per month. Larcomar is a "hip" tourist area that is one of the attractions of Miraflores. There are many restaurants, movie theaters, discos, pubs, and bookstores
in this commercial area. Transportation is available at any time. Traffic
may be congested at rush hour. Normally, it takes 15 minutes or less to
drive from/to school, but in rush hour, it could take 30 to 45 minutes
SURCO/SAN
BORJA: These two districts are between Miraflores and
the school. This is ideal if you want a quiet residential area approximately
a ten to 20 minute ride to the school.
- Chacarilla del Estanque: Chacarilla is residential
area that has lots of restaurants, shops, movie theaters, and
gyms. Chacarilla has many new apartment buildings that are
ideal for teachers. Rent varies between US$ 700 and US$ 1,500, and it's
about a 10 drive to the school. You will need to buy a
car or rely on plentiful taxis.
- San Borja: San Borja is a commercial
area with more houses than apartments. Rent varies between US$ 400 and
US$ 800, and it's about a 10 minute drive to the school. You will
need to buy a car or rely on plentiful taxis.
