Each month you will receive your utility bills from Luz del Sur (electricity company, averages between US$ 30.00 to US$ 150.00 per month), Telefonica (telephone company---averages between US$ 20.00 - up, per month), Cable, US$ 35.00 per month, and Sedapal (water company, if you live in a townhouse, averages between US$ 10.00 - UP, per month depending on the amount of water use) – those who live in apartments will pay their water bill together with their condominium fee, which averages between US$ 100.00 to US$ 300 per month).

Bills mentioned above can be paid in supermarkets (Wong, Santa Isabel, Metro, etc), drugstores and banks. In addition, you can also use the bank’s web page (www.interbank.com.pe or www.viabcp.com.pe) to pay your utility bills. If you choose to pay your bills online, you will need to subscribe for this service. The Housing/Relocation Assistant will help you do this.

INSURANCE

It is recommended by many teachers that you obtain insurance to cover your personal belongings (TV, computers, stereo, cameras, etc.). A minimum of $10,000 of insurance will cost about $250 per year and covers your personal belongings from earthquake, fire, plumbing breaks, or theft/robbery while at home. US$ 5,000.00 theft/robbery on the streets. Your belongings will also be covered while traveling on vacation including in other countries up to US$ 2,000. There is a $100 deductible. It also starts immediately upon verbal agreement with the agent and telephone confirmation from the insurance company. It is with the company that has provided insurance to FDR for many years. If you are interested in contacting the company, you can email or call

Health & Life Insurance:

The school will provide the teachers and authorized dependents with major medical coverage insurance under a worldwide insurance plan. Eligibility will be only for those authorized dependents resident in Peru and those dependents under 24 years of age who are enrolled as full-time students at an accredited university or college.

Teachers will also be insured in the Local Health Plan. This coverage is limited to consultation with the school doctor. Prescribed medication will be covered under the Overseas Hire International health insurance.

The school pays for a $10,000 term life insurance policy for each employee with an option for teachers to increase their coverage to $50,000 (for about U.S. $120 per year).
