Overseas Faculty Manual - Packing Tips for Using Airlines

Call your airline for baggage allowance information as it varies from one airline to another, as well as from one season to another.

Duffel bags, hockey bags and large suitcases are quite useful for bringing your belongings to Lima. Taped cardboard boxes are not recommended as suitcases, but you should check with your airlines before bringing cardboard boxes.

For transporting your luggage and belongings from home of record to Lima, either transporting via airline or via shipping, the school will provide you with an allowance of US$ 700 per adult and US$ 350 for each authorized dependent less than 12 years of age.

Option #1 Bringing Personal Items with you on your flight

This is by far the most preferred way of getting your personal belongings to Lima.

Please be aware that passengers will only be allowed 2 bags with a maximum weight per piece of 50 pounds (23 kg). Each piece is limited to a girth (l + w + h) of 62 inches or 157 cm. If the weight is between 50 to 70 pounds, you would have to pay US$25 plus tax (19%). If the weight is more than 70 pounds, you would be charged an additional US$ 25 for each additional pound. If you have more than two pieces, you will be charged US$100 for each piece each way plus the 19% tax.

You are allowed only one carry-on per passenger, and the allowed girth is 45 inches or 114 cm.
