PD - Organizational Development

Organizational Development

Planning for professional development at FDR is done annually. Its purpose is to fulfill the FDR Professional Development Goals in a transparent, accessible and communicative way. The underlying principles of enhancing student learning and teacher effectiveness apply.

The annual organizational plan is developed first at each school in response to the effect of the previous year’s plan and the needs for the curriculum and/or program in the following school year. The majority of available funds in the organizational plan will be allocated to bring consultants to the campus, because FDR can provide quality professional development equitably and to a large number of faculty and/or staff at a reasonable cost.

The compiled needs, their costs and timeline are shared at the Instructional Council. Consideration for development of support staff and the rest of the community in the organizational plan is added at the IC. The draft organizational plan, including costs and timeline, is then brought to the Professional Development Committee.

Criteria for Organizational Planning

Does the proposal:

  • Improve student learning?
  • Improve teacher, administrator or other staff effectiveness as a group using the best research and educational practices?
  • Promote transformational opportunities as a group such as continuous inquiry, collaboration and reflection?
  • Allocate resources effectively, efficiently, and equitably?
  • What are the desired outcomes? How will the experience be evaluated?
