ES Laptop Lab
Using the Laptop Lab
Our laptop program has now been in place for a couple of years, and
we believe it has a very positive impact in student access and use
of technology in the classroom to enrich the learning experience. The
success of our laptop program depends on us teachers making sure we
follow the procedures in place.
- Laptops will only be checked out to
TEACHERS who have participated in the laptop workshops offered by your
school’s tech team. (This
does not include substitute teachers since they will not have attended
proper in-service. Substitutes are welcome to use our regular lab
facilities. Therefore, if you have planned to use the laptops and are
suddenly
absent, you will need to have an alternative lesson plan.)
- Upon receiving
the computers the teacher should COUNT them. At the end of the period
BEFORE students are dismissed, computers should
be collected and COUNTED again to make sure all computers are back.
- Teachers
checking the laptops must supervise laptop use by their students. They
are responsible for making sure students SHUT DOWN their laptops
before putting them back in the trunks.
- Computers must NEVER be left
unattended. Computer trunks should always be inside a classroom when
checked out. If the teacher needs to walk
away from the classroom leaving computers inside, make sure to lock
them inside their trunks. Combination locks will be provided for
each trunk. If computers need to be left on desks, make sure to LOCK THE
DOOR to the classroom and close the windows.
- During class, laptops
should be placed on a secure flat surface like the students’ desks.
Students are not allowed to put the laptops on their laps.
- No food or
drinks are allowed while the computers are in the room. Water bottles
should be taken off the desk and moved away from the
computers.
- While using the laptops all students are expected to honor
the Acceptable Use Policies regarding appropriate use of technology.
(No games,
instant messaging, and obscene material, etc.) Violation of these rules may
result in computer privileges being restricted or taken away as stated
in the AUP.
- Before allowing your students to print, please make sure
they have chosen the closest printer available.
- Students may carry
single machines from the lab to their class inside the laptop bags.
If more than one computer is being transported,
students MUST use the trunks.
- Computers must be returned IMMEDIATELY after the
end of the period (unless they are checked-out for consecutive periods).
