Elementary School Parent Bulletin – September 21, 2009IMPORTANT DATES
ADCA MUSIC FESTIVAL: Congratulations to Luis Matteo de Bernardis and to Juan Luis Quispe for their participation at the ADCA Music Festival held at Colegio Newton last week. They played “Seitz Concerto First Movement Allegro.” We are very proud of you!
CONFERENCE WEEK: SEPTEMBER 28 - OCTOBER 2: Conference week is almost here! This is an exciting time in the elementary school where students have an opportunity to celebrate their learning with their parents. For our EC and Kinder parents, these will be Parent-Teacher Conferences where parents will be invited in to talk about their child’s progress with the teacher. Next semester, conferences will be Three-Way, with students present and actively participating. In first through fifth grades, the conferences both semesters will be Student-Led. In Student-Led Conferences, parents are invited to the classroom to participate in a conference that is truly Student-Led. Each student will share pieces of work from his/her portfolio, set goals, and discuss his/her reflections regarding the start of the year. It’s a very empowering experience for students to share with their parents in this setting, and parents find it informative and enlightening to see their child being responsible for his/her own learning. ADCA ART EXHIBITION: Parents are cordially invited to the ADCA Art Exhibition of all the bilingual schools in Lima. This exhibition gathers the art works of students from Elementary, Middle, and High School. This event is going to be held at Colegio Franco Peruano (Phone: 372-3718) located at 550 Morro Solar Avenue in Surco (Panamericana Sur between Primavera and Benavides going South). It starts on Monday, September 21st at 7:00 pm, and it will continue to be open to the public from Tuesday 22nd through Friday 25th, everyday from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Please come and support the variety of talents we have in our community. Entrance will be S/.5.00 and tickets will be sold at the door. Keep your tickers in order to vote for your favorite act at the end of the Talent Show! IOWA TESTS OF BASIC SKILLS All students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will be taking the IOWA TESTS OF BASIC SKILLS (ITBS) – Form A during the week of Parent/Teacher Conferences Sept. 28 – Oct. 2. These tests measure academic achievement and help us assess our school’s programs as well as obtain more information about our students in order to meet their individual needs. The completed tests will be sent to the U.S.A. for scoring. Test results will be made available to you when they arrive next semester. If a child is absent one or more days, he or she will not be making up for the tests, therefore the reports will be incomplete. Given the importance of these achievement tests we encourage you to make sure that your child gets an appropriate amount of sleep and eats a good breakfast. We hope children come to school well rested, confident, and ready to do a good job. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Principal or Counselor. LOST AND FOUND: Many moms have come to the ES Office to express their concern on the lost items that are never found. It may be the case that perhaps your son/daughter took home by mistake one piece of clothing that doesn't belong to him/her. Please check your children’s jackets, sweatshirts, and vests to see if they by mistake took one that doesn’t belong to them. Thank you! PARENT HELPERS If you are fluent in English and you want to come to read aloud early in the morning to your child’s class, you don’t need to come to the Parent Helper Training. Just contact your child’s teacher and schedule a time for you to come and read. DISMISSAL TIME Parents, please be reminded that at the end of the day you have to wait for your children in the car pick-up area, in the Alameda or in front of the ES Office and not outside their classrooms. There is a lot of noise in the corridors and this is very disruptive for students and teachers. Thanks for your understanding. GREEN TIP OF THIS MONTH: USE FEWER PAPER TOWELS AND NAPKINS |
