SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING:  First Graders worked on a cross-grade activity with Eighth Grade Students!

First graders have been learning about the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. The purpose of this activity was to find out what will happen to a balloon after we mixed vinegar and baking soda.

First graders went through the scientific method process with the help of the eighth graders. They had a problem or question, they developed a hypothesis, they went over the procedure, and finally came up with conclusions.

First graders were amazed to see how the balloon inflated due to the chemical reaction and the gases.
