KIMBERY WILLIS HOLT – AWARD WINNING AUTHOR VISISTS FDR:

Author Kimberly Willis Holt spent the week with students describing her journey as a writer, sharing her books, and inspiring our students and teachers to be readers and writers.  She gave presentations for the first through 8th graders, read to the early childhood and kindergarten students, and ran writing workshops for the teachers and some middle and high school students, and held a question and answer session for parents.  Her chapter book, Piper Reed, Navy Brat, which is about a girl who feels like she is always moving, touched a chord with many of her students.  Her message of "write from your heart" will have an important impact on our school.

Autographed copies of her books are available for purchase in the library.  The price range is 15 to 60 soles.  You can learn more about Kimberly and her books at her website www.kimberlywillisholt.com

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SUMMER READERS:

Congratulations to all our students in EC-Grade 5 who read books over the summer months and turned in their reading records for the Read-A-Thon.  This week, over 400 students came to the library to celebrate their summer reading by receiving a certificate, a cookie, and, most importantly, a book of their choice.  Congratulations to our young readers!

NEWCOMERS MEETING:

A welcome meeting for new FDR parents will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 11:15 in the Little Theater.  New parents are welcome to come and meet other Roosevelt families, the Administration, Board Members, and your Grade Representatives who would like to welcome you to Lima and give you some important information.  Please note at this event will replace the PTA Welcome Brunch scheduled for March 19, as printed in the monthly FDR School Calendar.

PERMISSION SLIPS:

Please be reminded that students are not allowed to go to a friend's house unless parents have sent a note giving their permission.  When students arrive to school in the morning, they should give the note from their parents to the classroom teacher or to a secretary in the elementary office who will issue a yellow permission slip.  For students’ safety, permission given by telephone is not acceptable.

PLEASE WEAR YOUR ID

Parents, please wear your Roosevelt ID whenever you are on campus.  Thank you for helping us make our campus secure for your children.

STUDENT ABSENCES:

A reminder that absences for family vacations will be considered unexcused. Teachers are not expected to provide homework for unexcused absences. Students who are absent miss critical moments in the classroom that cannot be made up. Please help your child take full advantage of our program by ensuring that he/she is in school every day - including the days before and after school holidays.
