Homework Policy

Students are expected to have about 40 minutes of homework every night. Students are also expected to read for at least twenty minutes every night and parents are asked to sign the Reading Log. If your child goes beyond one hour, then, please write a note and we are very understanding. At the same time, we want them to know that there are consequences for not completing homework assignments.   We check the homework very carefully every morning the first thing. We ask students to finish incomplete assignments during break or at lunch if needed.

Study Tips from

The Educated Child:   A Parent's Guide from Preschool through Eighth Grade
by William J. Bennett

The key to success in school or in life, for that matter, is a willingness to work hard.   Effort matters!   Here are some study skills we are practicing in 3rd grade.

Students:
Set up a study area.   Make sure there is a place in your home that is designated for study---a quiet, well-lit area.   This place is off-limits to other activities and is shielded from interruption.

Get rid of distractions.   Because study is work, make certain that there are no social phone calls, no computer games or television nearby which can divert your attention from the task at hand!

Parents:
Schedule study time.   Children respond well to structure.   Your child is more apt to get serious work done if the family routine includes a routine, designated study time.   Sometimes it can be helpful to write out this schedule and post.
