Health

School Nurse
A nurses’ office located in the elementary school building enables trained professionals to attend students’ health needs (illnesses, accidents and medication). Students who feel sick are sent to the nurse’s office, where they are examined to determine the kind of treatment necessary. If the nurse decides that a student should be sent home or to a hospital, she first attempts to contact the parents.

Medication
Medication may be administered to a student during the school day only at the written request of the student’s parents and/or physician. The family doctor must indicate in writing the necessity for the medication to be taken by the student, and parents must provide written authorization for the school’s health professional to administer the medication in the prescribed dosage. All medication taken at school must be brought to the nurse’s office for safe keeping. No medication is to be kept by the students in their cubbies, backpacks, desks, lunch boxes, or on their person.

Contagious Health Conditions

Whenever a child has a contagious condition (such as mumps, measles, chickenpox, head lice, conjunctivitis, etc.) parents are asked to keep the child at home until he/she is completely recovered.  Parents are also requested to take their child to the nurses' office and/or bring a certificate from the doctor to affirm that the child is in good health and no longer presents a risk for himself/herself or other students.

Lunch and Snacks
Students bring their own lunch and snack to school. They are encouraged to eat healthy foods which provide the proper nutrition for active minds and bodies.
Students may also purchase nutritious fruit juices, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and ice cream daily from the Snack Shack near the elementary basketball courts. The Varsity Club from high school offers barbequed sandwiches (hot dogs, meat, and chicken) once a week.
It is recommended that students bring a plastic bottle to school for water and an extra snack, especially if they stay for after-school activities.
