Illustrations and the Illustrator: Looking at "Flicks" (02:43) The person who draws or paints the pictures for a book is called the illustrator. This story tells what a girl does when she can’t blow out the candles on her cake.
Stories Without Words :(08:53) Stories Without Words---Children learn careful observation as they look for details in Peter Wezel's Good Bird. Then they participate in telling stories from other wordless books. The word illustrator and the Caldecott Award are introduced.
Enjoying Illustrations (08:55) Enjoying Illustrations---The imaginative work of forty different artists from the whimsy of Robert McCloskev to the realism of Holling C. Holling proves that illustrations add to the enjoyment of literature in some rather marvelous ways. You will also learn how to become an illustrator yourself by using artistic techniques and your imagination!
Three Warm-Up Activities (01:48) Become an illustrator yourself! In this segment, different ideas are offered on how to illustrate. Activities include: drawing the same face twice depicting two different emotions, using color to convey a mood, and, illustrating an idea.
Noah's Ark: A Caldecott Award Winner(01:06) The illustrator for Noah’s Ark, Peter Spier, won a prize for his illustrations called the Caldecott Award, which is only given to one artist for outstanding illustrations.
