Animal story
Hi, my name is Venom. I am a komodo dragon. I am a very large lizard with a forked tongue that is orange. I am heavy and I have large claws. My skin is leathery and gray. All baby komodos are born with green and red spots. I am a carnivore but I mostly eat carrion, which is the flesh of dead animals. Sometimes, I lurk behind the bushes and jump at my prey biting its throat. When I bite I inject a mortal poison that paralyzes my prey, although, if the amount of poison I put in is not strong enough and my prey manages to get away, it will eventually die in a few weeks because of the infection. My sense of smell is so developed that I am capable of smelling carrion from miles away. I have also developed my speed capacity and when I need to I can run faster than usual to catch speedy prey like gazelle or deer.
“My dad has showed me all I know until now because my mom had already died by the time I was born. If you want to know what happened, here it is: after my mom laid 2 eggs she was really tired and couldn’t get away from some hunters that were chasing her. When they caught up with her they killed her. The hunters snatched both eggs but in their hurry they dropped one of the eggs. When my dad came back, he found out that I had hatched. Confused and scared my dad held me tight and took me home. That is why I am an only child. I live in the desert biome. There I dig underground caves to protect me from the scorching sun. One day my dad went out hunting and never came back. Later I found out he had been captured to be taken to a zoo. I had lost what most mattered to me, and with that I had also lost my role model. Scared and lonely I hid in my cave for two days. I became weak and I knew that if I didn’t do anything I would die of starvation. Then I remembered the strength of my father’s arms and somehow my instincts kicked in. At that moment I crawled out of the cave, sniffed around and followed my nose to my first meal in two days. It was a dead desert rat. That yummy morsel only wetted my appetite for more, so I ventured further out in search of my first victim. Grazing near a shallow steam, I spotted a deer calf, I stalked it very carefully, I waited for a few seconds keeping a sharp eye on it and then suddenly I pounced on the calf’s tender loin. I feasted that day till sunset, and then fell asleep satisfied and confident that I could survive on my own. Years later and pounds heavier I would travel the globe in search of my captive father.
