In the Old Kingdom, when great architecture began about 4,600 years ago, they built many pyramids and this required many quarries to open in the cliffs near the Nile River. To transport these heavy blocks, they built roads to move them from the quarry to the pyramids.

This led to the first paved road in the world. Reaserh Geologists have a found a seven-and-a-half stretch of a road covered in slabs of limestone and snadstone and even some petrified wood. The pavement made the large slabs of stone move easily. Dr. James A. commented on this road, saying" Here is another arqtechnological triumph you can attribute to Egypt."

The doctors Harrel and Thomas Brown, mapped the road last year and reported their findings to the Geological Society of America in Durango, Colorado. They said that some fragments of pottery at the quarry and a camp for the ancient stone workers were both discovered near the roads adn these helped discover the time that the road was built in. The road was from the quarry towards the Lake Moeris. There were no other tracks of other paved roads sicne that was the only long distance. This was the only paved road in the Ancient Egypt.
